The Ukrainian played almost 50 games this season
Ukrainian basketball player Svyatoslav Mikhailyuk commented on the triumph in the NBA as part of Boston Celtics in the recently concluded 2023/24 season.
“Great team, great season. To be part of a team and win an NBA championship is just a blessing. Not many players can feel this. It was a great season. I’m really proud of what we did.”
“Everyone knows that there is war at home. I try to bring joy to my people and I feel like this championship and me playing here will just be a joy for the people back home. This is just great for Ukraine. My family is safe. But as everyone knows, many people die every day, so it is very terrible.”
Boston won its 18th title in franchise history. Mikhailyuk became the NBA champion for the first time in his career, and also the second Ukrainian after Stas Medvedenko with the championship title.
Mykhailiuk played 49 games for the Celtics this season. In the playoff series, the Ukrainian averaged 1.0 points and 0.6 rebounds over eight games. During the season, the Ukrainian scored 4.0 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.9 assists.
The Ukrainian can either remain in the NBA or leave the Celtics. In Europe, Euroleague clubs Panathinaikos and Real Madrid are interested in Mikhailyuk’s services.
