Hemp: Defeat from Romania is probably the most annoying of my entire career

The player believes that criticism of the national team is fully deserved

Defender of the Ukrainian national team Efim Hemp commented on the defeat from Romania (0:3) in the first round of the group stage of the European Championship.

“Of course, there were painful defeats – we lost 7 to Feyenoord, 7 to France. Of course, there were all sorts of defeats, but this is probably the most disappointing defeat in my entire career.”

“And because of the importance of the game itself, and because of the importance of the tournament, because of the responsibility that now lies with us. That’s why this defeat is probably the worst.”

“I saw a lot on social networks after the game. Of course, I saw a lot of things that I didn’t want to see. But everyone understands that this is life, football. We have a responsibility, and if we do not live up to people’s expectations, then, of course, we have consequences. For this we received these consequences.”

“Yes, it was tough, but I think that everything, in principle, was what we deserved.”

On June 17, the blue-yellows started at the continental forum with a crushing defeat from the Romanian national team – 0:3.

Edward Yordanescu’s team won the first half minimally thanks to a goal after intercepting Andrei Lunin’s pass from his own goal, and immediately after the break they struck a double blow. First, the Romanians carried out a counterattack, and then achieved defeat after winning the ball from a corner with the inexplicable passivity of the Ukrainian defense.

The match against Romania was the 12th for Ukraine in the finals of the European Championship. The blue-and-yellows suffered their ninth defeat, and they invariably lost in each match. Moreover: for the second forum in a row, the Ukrainian team missed three times in the opening match.

In the second round, Ukraine will play on June 21 with Slovakia, which sensationally beat Belgium (1:0). The meeting in Dusseldorf starts at 16:00.

The game will be officiated by a referee team led by Englishman Michael Oliver. The match will be commentated on the MEGOGO media service by Vadim Skichko and Roberto Morales.

In the final match of the group stage, Sergei Rebrov’s team will meet Belgium on June 26.
