Tyson believes he should have knocked out the Ukrainian

British, former WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KO) commented on the fight for the title of absolute world champion against the Ukrainian boxer, the current holder of the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO/WBC heavyweight belts Alexandra Usika (22-0, 14 KOs).

“I had to knock him out because I got that decision. This is unfortunate. At this level it is difficult to win fights, let alone knock someone out. I’m looking forward to the rematch and this challenge.”

“My problem was that I was having too much fun. At times it seemed to me that everything was too easy. It was as if I was there fighting a local amateur boxer. I was just enjoying it too much and messing around. As a result, I paid my price. This is what happens when you have too much fun. And they always told me: “Don’t mix work with fun.”

“But still, I performed well. I like it. Everything went well. I heard Usyk had a broken jaw and eye socket. So get better. See you in December for Christmas.”

On the night of May 19, Usik inflicted the first defeat of Fury in his professional career in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.

Usik became the first absolute world heavyweight champion in the era of four belts. In the heavyweight division, the last time Lennox Lewis held absolute status was in 1999, but then three titles were enough for this title.

It was reported that an agreement had been reached between Usyk and Fury for a re-fight. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Usik and Fury will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
