Slovenia was set up by the technical director. There is a unique situation in Group C of Euro 2024

May have to count yellow cards

June 25 at Euro 2024 The final matches will be held in groups C and D. If the situation in Quartet D is clear, then in the group with the teams of England, Denmark, Serbia and Slovenia it is very confusing. Bye the English guaranteed themselves access to the playoffs, regardless of the result of the last matchwho will play with the Slovenians. The teams of Denmark (2 points), Slovenia (2 points) and Serbia (1) will decide their fate today. Moreover, it is possible that when determining the final position of the teams UEFA will have to use additional indicators, and the main loser will be the technical director of the Slovenian national team. Let’s explain.

At the moment, Denmark and Slovenia have absolutely equal indicators: two draws, two points scored, two goals scored and two goals conceded. If the Denmark-Serbia and England-Slovenia matches are tied with the same score, UEFA will have to use additional indicators. According to the regulations, this is in order of priority

  1. Points in head-to-head matches (one at a time)
  2. Goal difference in head-to-head matches (0)
  3. Number of goals scored in personal meetings (one at a time)
  4. Best goal difference overall (0)
  5. Who scored more overall (equal)
  6. Disciplinary count

And it is precisely the last point that is fatal for Slovenia. The thing is that even according to the yellow cards of the players before the final matches of the group, the equality is four. But Slovenia was let down by the technical director of the national team on the bench, Milivoje Novakovic, who earned a warning on the bench in the first round match with Denmark. UEFA considers warnings from both players and technical staff. And if so, Denmark has an advantage: four cards against Slovenia’s five, and in the event of the outcome described above, it will be higher in the final table.

Of course, the likelihood of such a situation is not high, to put it mildly, but if it happens, the story will turn out to be funny. But definitely not for Slovenia.
