Sergei Rebrov’s team left Euro 2024 after a draw with Belgium (0:0)
Attack Ukrainian national team Roman Yaremchuk commented on the draw against Belgium (0:0) in the match of the third round of the group stage at Euro 2024.
“I think everything was decided in the first match. Who’s to blame? Only themselves in the first match. Now it’s too late to find out anything, we’ve already taken off. It’s hard to talk, emotions.”
“We played well against a strong team and showed some very good chances in the first half.”
“We played not a defensive formation, but an attacking one, with two strikers – for the first time under this coaching staff. And I don’t even remember the last time they played like that.”
“We knew that they had problems in defense, but they also knew that the attack was very strong: Lukaku clings to all the balls well, and De Bruyne rebounds well. They left one more player behind and two more in front – that was the idea. I think it worked, but we didn’t score or convert our chances. But I think the plan worked out.”
“Did the absence of Mudrik and Tsygankov have an effect? It’s too late to talk now. There are hungry football players who prepare for every match. Players came out who were ready to give everything. Unfortunately, it’s a shame to be eliminated with four points. We are the first team to be eliminated like this. It hurts to fly out like that, but it’s not a shame.”
Roman Yaremchuk played in all three matches at Euro 2024, scoring one goal.
Taking into account the draw between the national teams of Slovakia and Romania in the parallel match (1:1), all teams in Quartet E scored four points. According to additional indicators, first place in the group went to Romania, second to Belgium, third to Slovakia.
Ukraine, with the worst goal difference, finished the group stage in fourth place, ultimately failing to make it to the playoffs.
