Zabarny: Nothing to say. It was necessary to decide everything in the first two games, and not think that this is the third

The Ukrainian national team left Euro 2024 following the results of the group stage

Defender Ukrainian national team Ilya Zabarny commented on the draw against Belgium (0:0), as a result of which Sergei Rebrov’s team finished in the last fourth place in Quartet E.

“There are no emotions, only disappointment. It’s unpleasant not to go further with four points. Nothing to say. We had to decide everything in the first two games and not think about it being the third.”

“I want to express my gratitude to the very strong people who protect our country and support it. We are all working for one important victory, which will be soon.”

“Lack of chances for Belgium? I think this is the merit of the whole team. I saw the dedication that is needed at this level, but it’s not enough. We needed to be sharper in attack.”

Zabarny also noted that he did not follow the progress of the parallel match between Slovakia and Romania (1:1), although he allowed the final victory of one of the teams.

“Only after the whistle I heard about the result of that match. Was there any doubt that there would be a draw? Yes, this is football, this could happen, but I didn’t know the result.”

Zabarny played all three matches without replacement at Euro 2024. For the 21-year-old defender, this continental championship was the second in his career – Ilya previously defended the colors of the national team at Euro 2020.

Taking into account the draw between Slovakia and Romania in the parallel match (1:1), all teams in Group E scored four points. According to additional indicators, first place in the group went to Romania, second to Belgium, and third to Slovakia.

Ukraine, with the worst goal difference, finished the group stage in fourth place, ultimately failing to make it to the playoffs.
