Real buys Joselu from Espanyol and sells him to Qatar’s Al-Gharafa

After spending one decent season at a top club, the aging forward will head off to conquer Qatar

Real one step away from, as previously reported, buying out the contract Joselu at Espanola for 1.5 million euros. At the same time, the forward will not remain in Madrid. Will buy it for the same amount Al-Gharafa.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the 34-year-old football player will sign a two-year contract with an option to extend with the Qatari club.

Let us remind you that the Madrid club rented the older forward last summer. Real paid Espanyol 500 thousand euros for loaning the player for the season. Joselu more than lived up to expectations. Not being a stable starter, he played 49 matches for Blancos in all competitions, scored 17 goals (10 in La Liga) and provided three assists.

The striker’s finest hour was the return semi-final of the Champions League against Bayern on May 8 (2:1). Coming on as a substitute at the end when the score was 0:1, the Spaniard managed to score two goals and brought his team to the final. Joselu became the oldest scorer of a double in the Champions League playoffs after coming on as a substitute.

During his career, the forward played with varying success for Celta Vigo, Real Castilla, Hoffenheim, Eintracht Frankfurt, Hannover, Stoke City, Deportivo, Newcastle and Alaves. Joselu pulled out a lucky ticket thanks to a strong 2022/23 season with Espanyol – 38 matches, 17 goals and 4 assists.

At 33 years old (less than two days), the native of Stuttgart, Germany made his debut in the Spanish national team. Starting in March 2023, he played 11 matches for Furia Roja, scored five goals and ultimately earned a trip to the 2024 European Championship, where he already played 72 minutes in the third round match against Albania (1:0).

At the end of last season, Real Madrid became the champion of Spain and the winner of the Champions League.
