National Team Players UNITED STATES were subjected to racist insults on social media after losing to the team Panama in the second round of the Copa America group stage at home.
The Group C match took place on Thursday in Atlanta and ended with a 2:1 victory for Panama.
After the end of the match, American football players Folarin Balogun and Chris Richards posted examples of racist insults on their social networks. The United States Soccer Federation (USSF) issued a statement condemning such actions by users.
“The USSF is aware of and deeply concerned about the racist comments made online toward several of our national team players following the game. There is no place for such hateful and discriminatory behavior in the game. These actions are not only unacceptable, but they are contrary to the values of respect and inclusion that we uphold,” the USSF said in a statement.
After two rounds in Quartet C, the American team occupies the second position in the standings with three points. In the final match of the group round, the Americans will face leader Uruguay (6 points) on July 2, Moscow time.
