Athletistic/Football. Former president of Lokomotiv Olga Smorodskaya told Match TV that Valery Karpin has all the necessary qualities to continue working as head coach of the Russian national team.

On Friday, the Russian Football Federation (RFU) announced the extension of Karpin’s contract until July 2028.

— It is very good that the RFU has extended the contract with Karpin, I welcome this decision. Karpin is an excellent coach and I don’t see a replacement for him in the Russian national team. In many countries, a coaching position is problematic; it is difficult to find a person who suits both the management and the players. Karpin succeeds.

“Working in the national team is honorable, but the team rarely meets, and in a short time you have to unite the players and show results. You need to have knowledge not only in football, but also in the field of psychology. And Karpin knows how to do this,” Smorodskaya told Match TV.
