For the first time in NBA history, a father and son could play in the same season and for the same franchise.
During the second round of the NBA draft Los Angeles Lakers selected with the 55th overall pick Bronny James.
19-year-old Bronny is the son of an NBA legend, four-time Association champion LeBron James currently playing for the Californians. If the deal is successful, LeBron and Bronny will become the first father and son in NBA history to play in the league and the same franchise at the same time.
Bronny spent last season as a member of the University of Southern California team. In 25 NCAA Division I games, James Jr. averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.
The Lakers finished eighth in the Western Conference regular season and advanced to the play-in stage. In the playoffs, the Lakers lost to the Denver Nuggets in five games.
Darvin Ham will be replaced by JJ Redick, who will make his debut as head coach of an NBA franchise this season.
