After cases like that of Vinícius Júnior, LALIGA signs an agreement with the Spanish Ministry of Inclusion to combat racism
LALIGA and the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration will sign a new partnership agreement with the aim of combating racism in sport, promoting inclusion and generating debates to eradicate discriminatory behavior in sport. The partnership includes the transfer of MOOD, LALIGA’s tool for monitoring hate and racism on social media, to the Government system from the start of the next season.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Inclusion, Elma Saizand by the President of LALIGA, Javier Thebesat an event where they evaluated the results of the awareness campaign to combat racism: “Let’s win this game” (We are going to win this match). The tool will optimize the monitoring strategy already in place at the Spanish Observatory on Racism and Xenophobia (OBERAXE).
A historic season. 👏

As part of the agreement between the Ministry and LALIGA, in addition to sharing the tool to help prevent and address cases of violence, with a specific focus on racism and xenophobia, advertising campaigns and educational initiatives will also be developed, including an activation on racism in grassroots football, in addition to several specific collaborations with FUNDACIÓN LALIGA.
LALIGA President Javier Tebas explained the importance of continuing to fight racism: “At LALIGA, we have been fighting racism for years and participating in projects like this one from the Government, working with the private and public sector, only validates all the effort invested so far. We are convinced that this agreement will represent a turning point in the fight against violence and hatred.“.
The four-week “We are going to win this match” campaign aimed to promote inclusion and spark debate on how to eradicate discriminatory behaviour, often fuelled by hate speech, in the sporting world. This was the first joint action between LALIGA and the Ministry and is part of a broader collaboration that is expected to be formalised in an agreement signed by both parties at the start of the 2024-2025 season.
