Nagelsmann: It was a wild game, we were the best in the second half

Bundesteam reached the quarter-finals, beating Denmark

Head coach German national team Julian Nagelsmann was pleased with the team’s performance in the match with Denmark (2:0) in the 1/8 finals European Championship 2024.

“It was a wild game! The first 20 minutes were the best of the tournament. Then it started to rain. Then we thought we were losing, and then we took the lead.”

“The stadium really pushed us. When we switched to a three-back defense, the game became much more stable. There were moments in the first half when we were inconsistent and Eriksen found space. After the break we played much better. It’s always nice to keep the gates dry.”

“There is always room to grow. I was very pleased with the first 20 minutes, but we must not try to force things, but remain patient and keep the ball. If we can continue to do what we did in the first 20 minutes, we will be difficult to beat.”

“We have about 13-14 players who get more playing time than others and there is always some rotation among them. It depends on how they perform in training.”

At the beginning of the second half, the Danes scored a goal, which the referees canceled due to minimal offside. Then Kai Havertz scored a penalty, and at the end of the meeting Jamal Musiala scored the second goal.

Earlier, the Swiss team reached the quarterfinals, beating the reigning European champions Italians (2:0). In the quarter finals, Germany will meet the winner of the Spain-Georgia duel.
