Athletistic / Football. Former Russian national football team captain Andrei Arshavin has explained legendary Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo’s tears at Euro 2024. Ronaldo could not contain his emotions after missing a penalty in extra time of the Euro 2024 round of 16 match against Slovenia (0:0, 3:0 on penalties).
“If it was the first time, I would probably even support Ronaldo here. But to me now he looks like a girl, I think he cries more, not because he cries, but because he knows that it will be on camera and everyone will talk about it later. I have that feeling. But it doesn’t seem to me that it harms his reputation. All his female fans are now even happier. And in general, these tears have not harmed his image. At this European Championship, more than ever, he plays for the team and works for it more than before,” Arshavin was quoted as saying by Match TV.
It is worth noting that in the penalty shootout, Ronaldo converted his shot, beating Slovenian goalkeeper Jan Oblak. In the quarterfinals of the 2024 European Championship, the Portuguese national team will face France on July 5. It will be a remake of the Euro 2016 final.
In the current tournament, Cristiano Ronaldo has played four matches and scored one assist. This is his sixth Euro of his career.
