Head coach of the national team Brazil Dorival Junior took responsibility for the defeat against Uruguay in the quarter-finals of the Copa America.
The regular time of the match in Las Vegas (USA) ended with a score of 0:0. In the post-match penalty shootout, the Uruguayans were more accurate – 4:2.
— This team is going through a very important renewal. I have only coached them for eight games and it is a process that we have to follow. But I have to admit that the full responsibility for the result lies with the coach.
“We are aware of the challenges we will face along the way, but we have now lost the knockout match and this is not what we expected. But I repeat: we have many opportunities for growth, development and improvement, and our main goal now is to reach the World Cup,” Dorivala, 62, was quoted as saying by Reuters.
Uruguay will face Colombia in the semifinals of the Copa America. Argentina and Canada will face each other in the other semifinal.
