Jesus Navas is the oldest outfield player to play in a World Cup or European Championship semi-final

Another record from a Spanish national team player

National team defender Spain Jesus Navas became the oldest field player to play in the semi-finals of the championship peace or Europe. In today’s semi-final match Euro 2024 against France Jesus Navas took to the field at the age of 38 years and 231 days.

The previous record was set during the semi-final match of the 1958 World Cup. Gunnar Gren entered the field for Sweden, and Walter Fritz entered the field for West Germany. Surprisingly, at the time of that match they were both the same age: 37 years and 236 days. Now, 66 years later, that record has been broken.

Let us recall that in today’s Euro 2024 semi-final match between Spain and France, another record was set – Lamin Yamal became the youngest author of a goal in the history of the European Championship. He achieved this achievement at the age of 16 years and 362 days.

Jesus Navas is making only his third appearance at Euro 2024, replacing the suspended Dani Carvajal in the starting lineup today. Dani Vivian replaced Jesus Navas in the 57th minute.

It is known that at the end of 2024, Jesus Navas will end his playing career and move to a position as an official in his native Seville.
