President of the Russian Premier League (RPL) Alexander Alaev stated that the total prize money for the league clubs for the upcoming season amounts to 555 million rubles.
On Wednesday, at the RPL general meeting, the league’s clubs approved a model for the distribution of revenue and expenditure for the 2024/25 season. From a portion of the commercial revenues from existing agreements with partner leagues, a prize fund will be set up for clubs based on two criteria: attendance and media activity. Payments will be made at the end of the season.
— Today there was a change in the system of distribution of payments to clubs, it was adopted unanimously. Why is it important?
“A lot of important things happened today, it’s a joyful day.” Emotions are positive. If we talk about the distribution system, it is important for us. This issue has been discussed many times; we have one of the few leagues that uses a two-factor system. Today, the clubs have made this decision, we have all agreed together. Now everything depends on compliance with the KPIs.
— Why has the approach changed?
– This is a routine work. I would like to emphasize the role of the board of directors. The whole document took several months to form. The last reign lasted four and a half hours. We look at many things differently, but we have arrived at one thing. Everyone understood that something had to change. Every point is important now. When you accept something new, there will always be controversy. There are still open questions.
– Which?
— These are numerical criteria. I am grateful to everyone, because when I came, I said that this was the cornerstone for me. We took a step and opened the door. If it is done correctly, the amount can increase. This figure is now 555 million. When I came to the league, we discussed this issue, and the votes were eight to eight, knife-edge. Now everyone understands that change is needed.
– You said that order had to be restored…
— I said that distribution is important. It took a long time, there were factors that hindered or contributed. Some did not have fan cards, some had their social media accounts blocked, some had problems with the stadium. The clubs made concessions, but nevertheless everyone came to the same conclusion.
— Are you satisfied with the amount?
– Yes. We need to go step by step, I have already spoken about it. We have agreed, let’s start counting and processing. The fact that everything will not go smoothly is one hundred percent.
