Ukrainian eliminated from Wimbledon 2024 in quarterfinals
Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina commented on the defeat from the Kazakh tennis player Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals Wimbledon 2024.
“It was extremely difficult today. I tried everything I could. Nothing really worked. My opponent hit the ball well. I think that also prevented me from fighting for the match.”
“The first seven games were pretty tough. I had a few chances here and there to hang on to the match. Of course, I got a break in the first game, but then I didn’t serve very well. And Elena has a strong serve. So she doesn’t let you fight. And I missed a few chances myself at the beginning of the first set. Then she started serving much better, started hitting the ball very well.”
“In that game, when she had a break in the first set, she made four great returns, even though I was serving first. Yeah, it was hard for me to do anything with those balls. She just played really well in that game. And then she used her strong serve. So sometimes things work out that way, especially on grass.”
“Today my leg hurt a little more than in recent days, but to be honest, when the opponent plays so sharply, it is very difficult to react. We are at such a stage of the tournament that everyone already has small problems, their own injuries, everyone is going through something, so there is nothing special here.”
The Ukrainian lost to her opponent in two sets. Svitolina managed to take five games throughout the match.
Elina defeated Magda Linett, Jule Niemeyer, Ons Jabeur and Xin Yu Wang during the tournament. Svitolina was the last of the eight Ukrainian tennis players in the singles at Wimbledon 2024.
