Messi surpassed Iranian legend Ali Daei last night and moved up to second place in the list of the best goalscorers of the national team in the history of football. After the match against the Canadians, the 37-year-old Argentine scored 109 goals in the national team jersey, while Daei managed to score 108 goals in the matches of the Iranian national team. The record holder remains the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo (130 goals).
As a member of the Argentina national team, Lionel Messi has won the World Cup (Qatar 2022), the Copa America (Brazil 2021) and the Olympic Games (Beijing 2008). The forward currently plays in MLS for Inter Miami.
