National team defender Uruguay Jose Jimenez explained why there was a fight between Uruguayan football players and national team fans Colombia .
Uruguay national team football players fought with Colombian team fans after the America’s Cup semifinal. The America’s Cup semifinal took place in Charlotte (USA) and ended with a 1-0 victory for the Colombians. Jefferson Lerma scored the only goal in the 39th minute. The Uruguayans played mostly throughout the second half, but failed to score.
After the match, Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez and other players went up to the stands and started a fight with Colombian fans.
“They (the Colombian fans) fell on us like an avalanche, on our families in the stands. It was a certain sector of Colombian fans. It’s a disaster, we had to go to the stands to pick up our relatives with a newborn baby. Catastrophe. There was not a single policeman present. I would like those who organize all this to be a little more careful with the people, with the families around the stadium, because it’s the same thing that happens at every match. Our families are suffering because of two or three people who drink and don’t know how to drink, who behave like children. It’s a disaster,” Jimenez said, as quoted by El Observador Uruguay.
The Uruguayans will meet the Canadians on Saturday in the match for third place.
Colombia will face Argentina in the final on Sunday.
