Southgate is the third manager in history to lead the national team to two consecutive European Championship finals

Gareth has matched the achievements of two Germans – Helmut Schön and Berti Vogts

Mentor England national team Gareth Southgate became the third coach in history European Championshipswho led his team to two consecutive finals.

In previous years, only two Germans had achieved a similar feat: Helmut Schön (1972, 1976) and Berti Vogts (1992, 1996). Interestingly, Berti played in the 1976 final against Czechoslovakia (2:2, 3:5 on penalties), and 20 years later, Southgate’s miss from the spot at Wembley sent Vogts’ team into the final.

Recall that England reached their second consecutive final thanks to a comeback victory over the Netherlands in the Euro 2024 semi-final (2:1).

In the final, Southgate’s team will play against the Spanish national team, which defeated France (2:1) the day before. The decisive match of the 2024 European Championship will be held on July 14 at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. The starting whistle will sound at 22:00 Kyiv time.

The Three Lions have never won the European Championship before. The closest England came was three years ago, when they lost to Italy on penalties at Wembley.

England played both of their previous major tournament finals (the 1966 World Cup and the 2020 European Championship) at home. The Berlin Euro final will be the first to be played abroad.
