The Ukrainian goalkeeper of the Madrid team spoke about his football future at the club.
Andrey Lunin has worked hard to prove his ability to be useful at Real Madrid. The footballer spoke about this in an interview with Marca.
According to the Ukrainian goalkeeper, the last season was special for him, because due to the injury of Thibaut Courtois, he finally got enough training to play.
Lunin also said that he wants to stay in the “royal club”, but his future depends on the position of team management.
“I want to stay, but my future is in the hands of the club.
Ideally, Madrid demands everything. What I mean is? I mentally prepared myself to be the second goalkeeper and be ready when needed if Thibaut Courtois has any discomfort.
But then he got injured, which was the worst thing that could have happened to him. It’s a shame because he always inspired and supported me. At that moment I also supported him because he deserved it like no one else, although for me it might be a coincidence.
Since then I tried to do everything to show you that you can win me, that I can be number one, that you can also be calm with me. I played in the first two games of the championship, but the coach changed his decision and I had to be the second goalkeeper. Again I had to work and wait.
Psychologically, my husband helped me a lot, as always with these people, thanks to him I am not depressed. So when Kepa got injured in the warm-up, I was ready. And that day I was lucky enough to save the penalty, which gave me confidence and an adrenaline rush.
I tried to show that you can win important things with me, that I am ready for big things. This is what I love, what I work for every day.”
We remind you that the Ukrainian’s contract with the Madrid club expires in the summer of 2025. Last season, Andrei played 31 matches for Real Madrid, where he scored 32 goals and kept 12 clean sheets.
It was previously reported that Real Madrid had given Lunin an ultimatum.
