FIFA partially upheld Shakhtar’s claim against Galatasaray and Tete

Turkish club and Brazilian winger to pay Shakhtar €2.4 million, not including additional compensation

FIFA Dispute Resolution Commission partially satisfied the claim Miner against Galatasaray and winger Auntie (Mateus Cardoso Lemos Martins).

The football governing body has officially ordered the Ukrainian club to pay compensation in the amount of 2,389,776,776.24 euros (approximately 2.4 million), together with 5% per annum, payable from 8 August 2023. Galatasaray and Tete are jointly and severally liable for the payment of the entire amount.

The Turkish grandee, in turn, stated that it intends to appeal this decision in Lausanne.

Let us recall that Tete actually left Shakhtar immediately after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, taking advantage of the FIFA Annex for foreign footballers. At first, the Brazilian played on loan for Lyon and Leicester.

In July 2023, the winger terminated his contract with Shakhtar early and transferred to Galatasaray on a free transfer. Shakhtar then filed a complaint with FIFA, demanding that the transfer be cancelled and that both the player and the Turkish club be punished. In September, Turkish media reported that Galatasaray would pay Shakhtar a “small sum” for Tete’s transfer.

Galatarasay became the champion of Turkey and the winner of the Super Cup of the country at the end of the last season. Shakhtar became the champion of Ukraine-2023/24. In the first round of the new season, the Miners were supposed to play Vorskla, but this match (like two others) was postponed due to the call-up of players from both clubs to the Ukrainian Olympic team.
