Athletistic / Football. Italian clubs and national teams can be suspended from participating in tournaments under the auspices of FIFA and UEFA. Both organizations suspect the country’s authorities of interfering in the affairs of the Italian Football Federation.
According to La Repubblica, FIFA and UEFA did not appreciate the proposal put forward by a member of the political party Forza Italia, Giorgio Mule. The politician proposed to change Italian sports legislation, giving the leagues independence from the country’s Football Federation. If these amendments come into force, the Italian Serie A will be able to appeal to the administrative courts, bypassing the sports courts.
The source claims that FIFA and UEFA saw these amendments as government interference in sport, which violates the charters of both sports organizations. If these changes to Italian legislation are adopted, UEFA intends to deprive the country of the right to host Euro 2032.
The Italian national team failed at the 2024 European Championship in Germany, losing in the 1/8 finals against Switzerland (0:2).
