The miners are actively involved in transfer activities
Mentor Shakhtar Marino Pusic summed up the results of the friendly match with the Serbian club Backa Topola, and also stated that the Miners continue to search for candidates to strengthen the squad.
“The game with Backa Topola gave me a lot of information, I am very happy about that. Yes, we lost, which I am not happy about, but in fact we got a lot of information after this particular match, which gives us a basis for work in the future and for subsequent matches.”
“Of course, it was hard for the players, especially those who recently returned to us – it is logical to assume that they are not in the best condition now. But it is important for us that they remain in good condition not only physically, but also mentally. And we are working on this now.”
“The training camp, as we know, is not such a long part, considering the whole season, but it is an important stage. And although our roster is constantly changing – some players have just arrived, some have left for the Olympics – this does not mean that we should not improve, develop our playing style. And I am really happy with how we are going through this period of preparation and improvement.”
“These games are tough, but they allow us to see what we need to reach the level we want to reach, the Champions League level. As I told my players: if you win everything, the next season after that is the toughest, so you have to be physically and mentally at the highest level. And we are working on that now.”
“First of all, I want there to be more competition in the team – in the common sense of the word. Because healthy competition always creates conditions for improving quality in any area. And in this way, we can grow both individually and as a team. In some positions, we are understaffed to the end. The first thing I can say about the new players: they are great guys who have a winning mentality, and this is also very important for building our team.
“Pedrinho and Franjic? They are players with a lot of functionality, they can play in several positions, which is certainly great, because it gives us a lot of options to choose from.”
“But, as I said, they have just joined the team, they need time to adapt, to prepare, especially from a physical point of view, since we have been here longer than they have. But I am convinced that they will be able to prove themselves as best as possible.”
“We never stop searching. If the club wants to be at the level we have set for ourselves, which is the highest level, then while the transfer window is ongoing, we are not finished. We continue to improve at every level.”
During the training camp in Slovenia, Shakhtar has already played three friendly matches: they won a crushing victory over Bosnian Sarajevo (4:1), drew with Croatian Hajduk (1:1) and lost to Serbian club Backa Topola (0:1).
The miners are holding their first summer training camp at the Slovenian national team training base in Brdo. The training will continue until July 28.
Earlier, Shakhtar announced the transfer of goalkeeper Kirill Fesyun. The Miners also signed Wolfsburg midfielder Bartol Franjic on loan.
Defender Alaa Gram has already joined the Donetsk club. Pedrinho and Vinicius Tobias have returned to Shakhtar after their loan spells.
Marino Pusic’s team starts the new UPL season with a match against Poliesie in the second round. The match against Vorskla in the first round has been postponed to a later date due to the players of both teams being called up to the Ukrainian Olympic team.
