The start of the season in the PFL has been postponed. The First League starts on August 3, the Second on August 4

The first preliminary stage of the Ukrainian Cup has also been postponed

President of the PFL Alexander Kadenko reported that start of the 2024/25 season in the First and Second Leagues of Ukraine transferred.

“The first task of the PFL is to ensure a normal start and holding of the competitions. Therefore, we must monitor all events as closely as possible, predict their development and consequences, understand how this can affect the consistency of the calendar and the integrity of the competitions.”

“Given the situation this summer with the uncertainty surrounding individual clubs, this could lead to additional trades between leagues. Which in turn will impact the calendar and its occupancy.”

“So, having consulted with our clubs, having taken part in the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Ukrainian Football Association, we have reached a joint decision to change the start date of the 2024/25 season in our competitions. As for the First League, we are moving from the base day of the first round on July 25 to August 3, accordingly, we agreed that one round will be added in mid-September, approximately on September 11. In the Second League, the base day of the starting round was scheduled for August 5. So, we are moving it by only 1 day, to August 4. Accordingly, we ask to move the first preliminary stage of the Ukrainian Cup from July 30 to July 28, in order to thus separate the dates so that the teams have more time to recover and rest between these events.”

“By synchronising the competition calendars we achieve an important goal – we get more time to prepare for competitions, provide clubs in difficult situations with an additional opportunity to make a decision, and also maintain a time gap to make certain changes between leagues if necessary.”

“I am grateful to our participating clubs for their understanding – only together, in our unity, can we preserve the integrity of the competition. Thank you to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the opportunity to hold sports competitions of the all-Ukrainian level. Despite the difficulties of wartime, all organizations and clubs in Ukraine are doing everything possible to preserve the Ukrainian Football Championship and Cup. Today’s decision is an important step towards this.”

The First League of the 2024/25 season consists of 18 teams. As in the previous season, they will be divided into two equal subgroups.

Next season’s Second League will feature 23 clubs, which will also be divided into two subgroups.
