Ukrainian woman explains decision to take additional vacation on advice of medical staff
Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina withdrew from the tournament WTA 250 in Italian Palermo.
“Following the advice of my medical team and physiotherapist, I will not be able to compete in Palermo. I do intend to perform in front of the wonderful crowd in Palermo in the future, but I need to pay attention to my health. I hope to return to the WTA Tour as soon as I am physically ready. Thank you for your support and understanding,” Elina wrote.
Svitolina considered the clay court tournament in Palermo as preparation for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. The competition in Sicily will be held from July 15 to 21.
Elina reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2024. The Ukrainian lost in the quarterfinals to Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan.
