Pepe could become a Celta player

Experienced veteran close to La Liga return

Portuguese centre back Pepe can become a player Celts.

The 41-year-old defender is a free agent after leaving Porto. Celta intend to offer Pepe a one-year contract and the parties plan to hold talks in the near future.

Pepe played for Porto between 2004 and 2007, after which he played for Real Madrid and Besiktas. In 2019, the central defender returned to the Portuguese club and spent another five years there.

In total, the Portuguese has 27 trophies to his credit (13 with Porto and 14 with Real). He has 141 matches for the Portugal national team, with whom he won Euro 2016 and the Nations League in the 2018/19 season.

At Euro 2024 in Germany, Pepe set two age records. The Portuguese became the oldest player to take to the field in the history of the European Championships, after which he set the mark of 41 years and 128 days as the oldest player in the playoffs of a major tournament.

Celta finished 13th in La Liga last season.
