The Olympic team currently has 15 field players and 3 goalkeepers training
Head coach of the Olympic team Ukraine Ruslan Rotan spoke about the process of preparing his team for Olympic Games 2024 in Paris.
“Have all the Olympic team players arrived for the training camp yet? Well, you know the situation. Unfortunately, there are problems. We currently have 15 field players plus three goalkeepers. Therefore, we cannot organize a full-fledged training process, we have to proceed from what we have. I no longer want to complain and say that the clubs do not understand us.”
“I want to take a break from this and concentrate on work. We work with those who are here and wait for other guys. The sooner they arrive, the better.”
“We are waiting for the players Rukh Sych and Krasnopir and Batagov from Zarya. We have an agreement that after Rukh’s friendly match on July 13, Krasnopir will come to us, he will be with us today, after another friendly game on July 17 – Sych, and on the 20th – Zarya will release Batagov.”
“Trubin? Benfica didn’t give any arguments, they just sent us a letter of refusal, saying that they couldn’t let him go. So this is no longer a question for us. Today there is no point in discussing who the clubs let go and who they didn’t. We have a roster and we trust these players. And I want our country to believe in them too. But I have an unpleasant aftertaste from the fact that they didn’t let those players go to the Olympics who really wanted it and deserved to go to Paris, because such a tournament can happen only once in a lifetime.”
“Have we tried to invite veterans from Dynamo and Shakhtar, for example, Yarmolenko? We tried to attract some players from the Ukrainian national team, but the clubs did not meet us halfway.”
Ukraine will take part in the Olympic football tournament for the first time in its history. Rotan’s team won a ticket to Paris last year, reaching the semi-finals of the European Youth Championship.
On July 14, Ruslan Rotan’s team will play a friendly match with the Egyptian Olympic team, and on July 18, they will meet Paraguay. Both sparring matches will begin at 19:30 Kyiv time.
The coach of the Ukrainian Olympic team previously said that he does not see much desire on the part of most clubs to help his team and release their players to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games.
The final roster of the Ukrainian team included defenders Maksym Taloverov, Arseniy Batagov, midfielder Maksym Khlan, as well as the leaders of Shakhtar Donetsk – Dmytro Kryskiv and Danylo Sikan.
The Ukrainian national team will play at the 2024 Olympics with Argentina, Morocco and Iraq. In the first round, Rotan’s team will meet the Asian team on July 24.
