Bogachuk on sparring with Fundora: At first, even I couldn’t understand how a person with such anthropometric data could box like that

Ukrainian noted Sebastian Fundora’s unconventionality in the ring

WBC Interim Light Middleweight Champion Sergey Bogachuk spoke about sparring with the WBO and WBC world champion in the first middleweight division Sebastian Fundora.

“I was surprised by the fact that he is unconventional, something that surprises all his sparring partners and opponents. You watch and see one thing, but in a fight you feel something completely different. People just don’t understand. At first, even I couldn’t understand how a person with such anthropometric data could box like that. Not only is he resilient, but he can also hit sometimes. He is a very unconventional, very strong boxer.”

“As they say, looks can be deceiving. That’s about him. I’ll say more: he doesn’t lose weight. That’s his weight. He eats normally – either his metabolism or worms, I don’t know. It’s very uncomfortable with him. There’s a simple tactic: with long boxers, you come up and work close. And with him, you come up close, and he hits back. It’s very unconventional. He also sits on top of you, and you don’t know how and where to hit.”

Fundora will next fight in October against Errol Spence. Sebastian won his last fight against Australian Tim Tszyu by split decision. Fundora had originally planned to have a rematch with Tszyu before facing other opponents.

Bogachuk himself previously expressed the opinion that he should make several defenses of the interim title before arranging a high-profile fight – for example, with the same Sebastian Fundora.

Bogachuk was originally supposed to fight Fundora for the full WBC title. However, the fight fell through because the American was appointed as a replacement for Keith Thurman in the fight against Tszyu.

Sergey Bogachuk himself will fight Vergil Ortiz in his next fight on August 10. The event will take place in Las Vegas at the Michelob Ultra arena in the famous Mandalay Bay casino. The interim WBC title, which Bogachuk holds, will be at stake.
