Boulaye Dia did not play for Salernitana for the entire second half of last season due to disagreements with the club’s management. The reason was that the management of the Italian team did not let the forward go to another club in the winter, although the Senegalese had a number of lucrative offers, including from the Premier League.
Dia had a great first season with Salernitana, scoring 16 goals in the 2022/23 campaign and helping his club stay in Serie A. Dia also had one successful year with Villarreal, reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League with the Spanish club.
The Senegalese forward could become a competitor or a direct replacement in Girona for Artem Dovbyk, who is of interest to Tottenham and Juventus.
This off-season, Girona have already signed Sparta defender Ladislav Krejci, Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek and Braga striker Abel Ruiz.
Girona finished third in La Liga last season. Artem Dovbyk and Viktor Tsygankov’s team received a direct ticket to the 2024/25 Champions League. In the first round of the new season, Girona will play Betis on August 15.
