National team forward Spain Nicolas Williams said he still did not fully understand what victory the Furia Roja had achieved with him in the lineup.
In the European Championship final in Berlin, the Spaniards beat England 2:1, with Williams opening the scoring in the 47th minute.
“Right now we don’t really realise what we’ve done. Tomorrow we return to Spain and will be able to enjoy it with the fans who have always given us love and warmth. We have made history. Every footballer dreams of a moment like this. Thanks to everyone who believed in me from the beginning. I always try to do my best to help my team. It’s true that people know me better now and are starting to respect me more, I really appreciate that respect,” Williams said, as quoted by the tournament’s official website.
Spain have won the EURO for a record fourth time, having previously won in 1964, 2008 and 2012.
