Three Lions lose to Spain in Euro 2024 final
Gareth Southgate, England national team coach commented on the defeat to Spain (1:2) in the Euro 2024 final.
“Congratulations to Spain. I thought they were the best team in the tournament and they were the best team tonight. Our biggest problem was that we didn’t use the ball well enough.”
“England players have been to two major finals and a semi-final in the last eight years. There are a lot of young players who will be playing for another six to eight years. Although it is painful for them at the moment, there is no reason why they cannot be at the top again.”
“This tournament has been an amazing experience for us and it’s a great honour again to have the chance to make history in the final, but we didn’t quite achieve that goal.”
Spain beat England 2-1 in the final of the 2024 European Championship. Goals from Williams and Oyarzabal secured the historic triumph for de la Fuente’s team.
Spain won the European Championship for the fourth time and became the absolute record holder of the continent in this indicator. Behind them was Germany with three victories. Italy and France have two triumphs each.
