The coach is not sure that the White-Blues are now ready to play in the main European Cup of the Old World
Former player and coach of Kyiv Dynamo Alexander Khatskevich commented on the upcoming matches of the capital club against Partizan in the second qualifying round Champions League 2024/25.
“If Dynamo goes further in the Champions League, they will be unseeded and it will be very difficult to get through in that case [дальше]. The Kievans played in the Champions League for two years and took five points out of 30. Probably, each team has its own tournament. We need to be honest, but it is clear that the financial side is important.”
“If we speak only from this point of view, then I wish Dynamo to play in the Champions League. But, as Lobanovskyi said at the time, we need to be competitive. We can get into the Champions League, but what will we represent there?”
“That’s why I wish the Kievans to get into the group in the tournament where Dynamo will set the task of reaching the playoffs. There is a tournament for every time, every generation. But just getting there and taking one point in six matches… In my opinion, this is wrong.”
The first meeting between Dynamo and Partizan will take place in Lublin, Poland on Tuesday, July 23. It will start at 21:00 Kyiv time (20:00 local time).
Tickets for the match in Poland are already on sale. Prices vary from 8 to 70 euros depending on the price category. The main referee for the match will be German Christian Dingert.
The return match in Belgrade will take place in eight days – on Wednesday, July 31. The meeting will also begin at 21:00 Kyiv time. The match at the Partizan Arena will be held without spectators.
If Oleksandr Shovkovskiy’s team manages to get past the second round, then their potential opponents in the third will be Rangers, Slavia (Prague), Red Bull (Salzburg) and Lille. Also among the contenders for two tickets to the main draw of the main European Cup are Union Saint-Gilloise and Twente.
In case of a loss to Partizan, the capital club will end up in the third qualifying stage of the Europa League.
