We compared two tournaments that took place at almost the same time
On Sunday night, two continental tournaments in world football ended. In Berlin, the Spanish national team, having beaten the English team, became the European champion for the fourth time in its history. In Miami Gardens Argentina defeats Colombiawon the Copa America for the 16th time, which was held this year in an unusual format. After Euro 2024 and Copa America 2024 We analyzed both tournaments. Spoiler: The change in the America’s Cup format has clearly benefited itand although the tournament is still a long way off from the Euro, a huge step forward has been made in terms of prize money, attendance and spectator attention.

Copa America 2024. Inter and Argentina forward Lautaro Martinez scored five goals.

Prize money
Euro 2024. The total prize fund of the tournament was 331 million euros. Qualifying for the Euro earned each team 9.25 million euros. A win in the group was valued at one million euros, a draw at 500 thousand euros. The teams that reached the 1/8 finals received 1.5 million euros, the quarter-finalists at 2.5 million euros. Reaching the semi-finals was valued at 4 million euros, reaching the final at five million, and winning at another three million. Thus, the Spanish team, which won all its matches at the Euro, earned 28.25 million euros.
Copa America 2024. The total prize fund of the tournament was 72 million dollars, which is almost three times more than at the previous tournament held in 2021 in Brazil (19.5 million). It was divided into 16 teams. Each team received 2 million dollars for participation. Reaching the quarterfinals was estimated at another two million. The team that took fourth place received an additional four million, the third – five. The finalist became richer by seven million dollars, the winner – by 16. Thus, Argentina received 20 million dollars for winning the tournament.
Ticket prices
Euro 2024. The average price of tickets in the cheapest category for matches in the group stage and play-offs, including the final, was 63 euros.
Copa America 2024. The average price of tickets for the cheapest category for matches in the group stage and playoffs, including the final, was $150.
Owners’ income
Euro 2024. According to experts, Germany expects to receive around 200 million euros in revenue from hosting Euro 2024.
