Di Maria ends international career

Angel won the Copa America and left the Argentina national team

Winger Angel Di Maria announced his retirement from international football. After winning the 2024 Copa America, the midfielder said he was leaving the national team Argentina.

“It was my dream to leave the national team like this. Argentina is my love and my country. Thank you”.

With the Argentina national team, Di Maria won two Copa Americas (2021 and 2024), as well as the 2022 World Cup and the 2022 Finalissima. In 2008, Angel won the Olympic Games as part of the Albiceleste. He has 145 matches and 31 goals to his credit.

Argentina beat Colombia 1-0 in the 2024 Copa America final. Lautaro Martinez scored the winning goal for the Albiceleste in the 112th minute.

Lionel Scaloni’s team won the Copa for the second time in a row, retaining the title they won in 2021. At the same time, the Albiceleste took sole first place in terms of the number of trophies won (16 Cups), ahead of Uruguay.

Di Maria, however, will tentatively extend his contract with Benfica. The 36-year-old midfielder will spend another season with the Orly, where Ukrainian goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin plays.
