Yellow card received by the London midfielder “Arsenal” Xhaka Granite during the Premier League game against Leeds last season, was suspected by law enforcement in the UK, according to the Daily Mail.
The game took place on December 18 at Leeds and ended 4-1 in favor of the Gunners. The referee showed Xhaka a warning at the end of the game for delay. The Football Association of England (FA) has opened an investigation in connection with the increase in the volume of bets on the yellow card of the player of the Swiss national team.
The case was reported to the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), which found evidence that large sums of money had been staked in cryptocurrencies for the game, including in Albania. The agency is also investigating allegations that striker Alban Yusufi, who was suspended for five years in 2017 for his involvement in match-fixing in Sweden, made a large sum of money betting on Xhaka.
There are no suggestions of wrongdoing on the part of the player, while it’s unclear who might be involved in any possible conspiracy. Arsenal and the FA declined to comment on the matter on Thursday.
