Player submits sale request to City
Atletico began negotiations with Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez.
The mattress makers see the Argentine as a potential replacement for Alvaro Morata, who is close to moving to Milan. Julian himself had previously approached City management with a request to sell.
Julian’s current contract runs until 2028, and Alvarez expects City to set a reasonable price for his sale.
Alvarez, the reigning World Cup champion, has been with Man City since the summer of 2022, having joined from River Plate. Last season he played 54 matches in seven competitions, scoring 19 goals and providing 13 assists.
In December, after City won the Club World Cup, Julián became the third player in history to win all possible major tournaments in South America, Europe and the world.
Manchester City, we recall, became the champion of England at the end of the season that just ended (the 130th in the club’s history), two points ahead of Arsenal in the table.
Atletico finished fourth in the Spanish league last season. Diego Simeone’s team will begin the new season on August 19, when they play Villarreal away in the opening round of La Liga.
