Athletistic / Football. Monaco’s press service has explained why Russian midfielder Alexander Golovin was the team captain in the friendly match against Belgian Cercle Brugge (1:1). According to the Monegasques, the final question of the new team captain will be decided later.
“It was just a pre-season match. Monaco is still waiting for the players of the national teams that participated in the Euro 2024 America’s Cup in the United States. Nothing has been decided yet with the new captain,” quotes a statement from the TASS agency. Monaco press service.
In the 2023/2024 season, Alexander Golovin was the second captain of the team, while the main one was striker Wissam Ben Yedder. But in the offseason, the Frenchman is Monegasque.
Alexander Golovin became a Monaco player in July 2018. Last season, in 25 Ligue 1 matches, he scored 6 goals and provided 6 assists. The Russian helped Monaco take second place in the French Championship for the first time in six years.
