Athletic legend may move to Argentina’s championship
River Plate is in talks with the former midfielder and captain Athletics by Iker Muniain.
The president of the Argentine club is already in Spain, where he met with the player. Muniain himself is positive about the option of moving to River Plate.
There are two issues that are currently holding up the deal: Iker’s move has not yet been approved by River Plate head coach Martin Demichelis, and there is also a lack of agreement on the financial terms of Muniain’s possible contract at River Plate.
Muniain, 31, has spent his entire career at Athletic, becoming a true club legend. The Bilbao club won the Spanish Cup last season, and Iker himself announced his departure from his hometown club as a free agent at the end of the season.
In total, last season, due to injury, Muniain played only 25 matches for Athletic in all competitions, scoring three goals.
River Plate, under the leadership of former Bayern, Manchester City and Argentina defender Martin Demichelis, currently occupies eighth place in the Argentine championship.
