Argentina apologizes to France after vice president’s speech

The Argentine vice-president defended the players who sang the song against the French players and even called France “hypocritical” and “colonialist”

The Argentine government apologized to France after Vice President Victoria Villarruel took to social media to defend the Argentine players involved in the racist episode, in which they were caught on a live broadcast by Enzo Fernández singing a song with racist, xenophobic and transphobic content.

“They play for France
but they are from Angola
I’m glad they’re going to run
relate to transsexuals
their mother is nigerian
their Cameroonian father
but in the passport: French”, says the song sung by the Argentine athletes.

“No colonialist country will intimidate us for a court song or for telling truths they don’t want to admit. Stop pretending to be indignant, hypocrites. Enzo, I’m going to bench you, Messi, thank you for everything,” says an excerpt from his post on Twitter/X.

Manuel Adorni, spokesman for President Javier Milei, confirmed on Friday that Karina Milei, sister and secretary of the Argentine authority, went to the French embassy and explained that “the unfortunate comment made on social media was in a personal capacity and that it is not the government’s position to mix sports issues with diplomatic issues.” The South American country assured that the relationship between the two countries has not changed and diplomacy remains intact.
