‘Property also beats’: Boca Juniors install machines in their training center to simulate La Bombonera movement

The Transandean club seeks to ensure that young people adapt to the unique conditions experienced during the matches played on the grounds of the xeneizes, thanks to the proximity of the public and their constant encouragement.

That La Bombonera is one of the most special stadiums in the world is no surprise. The Boca Juniors site receives this name due to its particular, almost vertical construction. This form also has a particular impact on the environment that is lived there. The support of the fans is felt with more force and from there is born one of the great myths around the redoubt: “La Bombonera does not move, it beats”.

Throughout its history, at least since the stadium has existed, the xeneizes have benefited from special conditions. They are convinced that the rivals are intimidated by visiting it and that they are disconcerted by the particular conditions that are transferred to the playing field. Now they are taking another step in the direction of taking advantage of it: accustoming their players to the particular conditions that they will find when they play at the Colosseum in Buenos Aires from the training phase.

“La Bombonera is the only stadium that moves”, testifies Juan Román Riquelme, vice-president of the club, in an institutional video which reports on the latest innovation. There is no shortage of knowledge for the one who, as a player, shone in these pastures and came to establish himself as one of the greatest institutional idols. “We might have been playing badly, but a corner was coming and you knew a goal was coming… You stand still when you start jumping and the pitch moves,” he said in an interview to chart the difference felt on this playing field.

“We made an installation to simulate what happens at La Bombonera every time all the fans are clapping at the same time. On this occasion, we transform each ‘like’ on our networks into a heartbeat to make the room vibrate, ”announces the club in the video where they spread the idea. “How La Bombonera is shaking,” we hear in the promotional video.

In May, the Boquense site will celebrate 82 years since its construction, a period during which it has undergone several transformations without altering its original design.
