This Tuesday (23), the International received, in the Beira-Rio StadiumO Rosario Central for the second leg of the playoffs South American Cup 2024. Already at a disadvantage, Colorado fell behind at the beginning of the game, was unable to reverse the aggregate score and said goodbye to the most plausible chance of the title this season.
The game started as expected, with the home team hammering the Rosario club, who were hoping to hold on to the advantage they had built up in the first game for the full 90 minutes. Inter had almost 90% of the ball possession at one point in the first half.
But the offensive actions did not translate into significant chances and the Argentines, in the first attack, opened the scoring with the full-back Sandezwho received a pass from the defender Facundo Mallo after a back and forth in the area. Shaken by the goal, Internacional created very little in the rest of the first half and went to the locker room needing to score two goals to take the match to penalties.
With the changes of Roger Machado at half-time, Inter started the last half in the best way. Just 3 minutes in, Wesley crossed to Enner Valencia head the ball and force the goalkeeper Brown to spread. Alan Patrick was smart and took advantage of the rebound to tie the game.
However, even with the energy and support of the fans, the Colorados did not come close to the Argentine goal. At the end of the game, Internacional players were outraged with the referee for not awarding a penalty on Rafael Borre and a fight between the teams began.
The tension left the pitch and spread to the Colorado fans, who clashed with police officers. One fan was detained after trying to invade the pitch. But it did nothing to prevent another elimination of Inter at Beira-Rio. Check out some facts about the match:

On the other side, Rosario Central remains in the competition and faces Strength in the round of 16. Inter’s next match is against Bahianext Saturday (27), in Arena Fonte Nova.
