Ukraine’s Olympic team loses to Iraq in debut match at 2024 Olympics

Rotan’s team took the lead, but then conceded twice

Olympic team of Ukraine lost Iraq in the first round match of Group B Olympic Games 2024.

The first half was under the control of Ruslan Rotan’s team. The blue-yellows failed to realize several scoring opportunities.

After the break, Ukraine opened the scoring, after a penalty kick, Valentin Rubchinskiy played successfully on the finish. However, the Iraqis quickly got even – Ayman Hussein converted the penalty.

Later, the Iraqi team scored a second goal, scored by Ali Jassim. The blue-yellows spent the rest of the match in attacks, but were unable to recover.

Let us recall that in another match of Group B, Argentina scandalously lost to Morocco. The Albiceleste, losing 1:2, scored the second goal in the 15th minute of added time. However, the match was interrupted due to firecrackers that fans began throwing onto the field. At the same time, the main referee of the match did not count the Argentines’ goal due to offside after a VAR tip. The game was resumed a few hours later and ended with a victory for the Moroccan team.

Ukraine is taking part in the Olympic football tournament for the first time in its history. Rotan’s team won a ticket to Paris last year, reaching the semi-finals of the European Youth Championship.
