Elina faced Moyuka Uchijima from Japan in the opening match. The Ukrainian gave up only three games to her opponent. The match lasted just over an hour.
In the second round, Elina’s opponent will be the winner of the match between Jessica Pegula (USA) and Victoria Golubic (Switzerland). Their match will take place later on Sunday.
Earlier, Angelina Kalinina withdrew from the Olympic tournament. The Ukrainian’s opening match on Saturday was postponed to the next day due to rain, but on Sunday Angelina was unable to play due to illness.
