Atlanta Unitedwhich plays in the American MLS, announced the signing of Russian midfielder Alexey Miranchukwho previously played for the almost namesake of his current club, the Italian Atalanta.
The contract with the 28-year-old footballer was signed until the end of the 2027 season with an option to extend it for another year. According to the Transfermarkt portal, the transfer amounted to 12 million euros.
Miranchuk is a product of Lokomotiv, from where he moved to Atalanta in early September 2020. For some time at the Bergamo club, Oleksiy was a teammate of Ukrainians Ruslan Malinovsky and Viktor Kovalenko.
The Russian spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Torino. Miranchuk played a total of 98 matches for Atalanta, scored 13 goals, and gave 19 assists. Together with the team, he became the winner of the 2024 Europa League.
Earlier, Atalanta signed Nicolo Zaniolo on loan, who plays in the same position as Miranchuk – attacking midfielder.
Atalanta achieved a historic Europa League triumph last season and also finished fourth in Serie A, which allowed Gian Piero Gasperini’s side to qualify for the Champions League.
On August 14, Atalanta will face Real Madrid at the National Stadium in Warsaw in a match for the UEFA Super Cup. The match will be officiated by a Swiss team led by Sandro Scherer. Ukrainian Mykola Balakin has been appointed as the fourth official.
Atlanta, with 28 points from 25 games, is in ninth place in the MLS Eastern Conference.
