China’s Zheng Qingwen wins Paris Olympic tennis title after beating Vekic in singles final

The bronze medal was previously won by Swiatek from Poland

Chinese tennis player Zheng Qingwen beat the Croatian Donna Vekic in the final of the women’s tournament Olympic Games 2024 in singles.

Two sets were enough for Zheng to triumph, the match lasted one hour and 46 minutes. The Chinese player played the first set with maximum confidence, allowing her opponent to take only two games.

The second set was a tense affair for a long time. Qinwen led by two games, but Vekic equalized the score. The turning point came in the eighth game, when Zheng made a break on her fourth attempt, led 5:3 and then masterfully brought the match to a winning finish on her serve.

Let us recall that earlier, Tomáš Macháč and Katerina Siniakova from the Czech Republic became the champions of the 2024 Olympic Games in mixed doubles. In men’s doubles, Australian tennis players Matthew Ebden and John Peers celebrated their triumph.

Tomorrow, August 4, the decisive matches in the women’s doubles and men’s singles (Novak Djokovic – Carlos Alcaraz) will take place.

Ukraine was left without medals in tennis at the 2024 Olympic Games. The Kichenok sisters (in doubles) and Marta Kostyuk (in singles) were one step away from the semi-finals. Elina Svitolina left the tournament at the 1/8 final stage, Dayana Yastremska dropped out in the second round, and Angelina Kalinina was forced to withdraw from the competition due to illness.
