National team forward Argentina Lucas Beltran criticized the behavior of the team’s players France after the quarter-final match of the Olympic tournament at the Paris Games.
France beat Argentina (1-0) in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Olympic Games. After the match, players from both teams started a fight that lasted several minutes.
“They celebrated the goal in front of us, insulted us and called us racist. You think: why are they saying that, because I’m not like that. It seemed strange to me that they started celebrating the victory of the match in front of our families. I don’t think it’s right.
“I have never had any problems with the French. I invite them to Argentina so they can see what we are like. We are nice to everyone and there is no racism. This label is inappropriate,” Beltran said, as quoted by RMC Sport.
The International Football Federation (FIFA) has opened an investigation following a complaint from the French Football Federation (FFF) regarding the behaviour of players from the Argentina national team.
