The coach of the national team expressed his willingness to leave his post, but noted that he would not do so. According to Rebrov, he did not have enough time to present the game he planned for the players. And everything must be corrected in the next qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup.
“If in the executive committee I have questions about the institution of the national teams, then I continue to support, help if necessary a few days, even weeks, I spent, if you do not count this month in the Euro, then this year we worked together for less than a month.
If you look at the experience of the top teams in Europe, no one has signed a coach for 1 year. Because it is too small for the players to understand your ideas. Since many players come from other teams, their playing style may differ between these teams. And it takes time for players to understand the requirements. And you need practice, you need games.
Now a year has passed. I signed a contract for 3 years – for 2 qualifying rounds. If I can’t satisfy someone now, I’m ready to leave. But I don’t think there is much time.
Today I spoke with Andrei Nikolaevich. I think this qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup is very important. If I see that I can’t do it, I’m not going to sit here and say: “No, I have to, I have a contract.” No, it won’t happen. Therefore, now it is important for me to prove myself better, to show myself better as a team in this qualifying round, and then we will see. This is important. And it is not a question of the executive committee who trusts or not. Now there is a contract, and I think we spent the first year well. Now we have to study, move on and look to the future,” said Rebrov.
