Leipzig extend Xavi Simons’ loan from PSG for another year

The Dutchman played a strong last season for the Bulls, after which he performed well at the Euro

RB Leipzig officially announced that the midfielder Xavi Simons will remain on its roster for another year. The German club has reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain about extending the Dutchman’s loan for the 2024/25 season.

Simons is reported to be changing his number in the new season, from 20 to 10.

The 21-year-old player played 43 matches for the Bulls last season, scoring 10 goals and making 15 assists.

The footballer got his name in honor of Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez. Simons was brought up in the Catalan club since childhood, but at the age of 16 he left it and moved to PSG.

The Parisians, in turn, released Xavi to PSV in the summer of 2022, but after a strong season (22 goals and 12 assists in 48 matches) they activated the buyback option. Simons’ contract with the French giants runs until 2027.

In April, it was reported that Barcelona were interested in bringing back their pupil. In June, Bayern were named among the contenders for Xavi.

In the summer, Simons performed successfully at Euro 2024 as part of the Netherlands national team – he was in the starting lineup in all six matches, scored one goal (against England in the semi-final loss – 1:2), and made three assists.

PSG became the champion of France, Leipzig finished fourth in the Bundesliga. The Bulls will start the new season on August 17 with an away Cup match against Essen. On August 24, Leipzig will host Bochum in the first round of the German championship.
