Having already won the gold medal, Arman cleared two heights – 6.10 and 6.25 meters.
To the Swedish track and field athlete Armand Duplantis in the final of the competition pole vaulting on Olympic Games 2024 another achievement was achieved. The athlete not only became an Olympic champion again, but also broke his own world record.
The Tokyo Olympic champion defended his title without much resistance. To win, he only needed to clear the six-meter height, which neither of his two closest pursuers, American Sam Kendricks and Greek Emmanouil Karalis, could clear.
But this was not enough for the Swede. First, he broke the Olympic record, which had belonged to the Brazilian Tiago Braz (6.03) since 2016, jumping 6.10 meters on his first attempt. And then he set his sights on his own world record – 6.24, which he set in April of this year at the Diamond League stage in Xiamen, China.
Duplantis was given a 6.25 mark. It was all very dramatic: the first two attempts were in vain, but the successful last jump made Arman a part of history.
The 2024 Summer Olympics will end on August 11. The competitions will feature 329 sets of awards in 32 sports. Ukraine is represented in Paris by 140 athletes in 23 sports – this is the smallest representation of the blue and yellow during the Olympics.
